Enterprises are rapidly adopting advanced infrastructure
Over the last few years, the growth of public/hybrid cloud adoption has increased significantly. Enterprises have been facing the need to adopt new technological advances due to cost pressure from their finance teams. Hence, engineering teams of enterprises have to find the best technological solution that can help in reducing technical debt and associated costs.
Within the infrastructure domain, the cloud management platform (CMP) has become one of the most important platforms or tools to have, as IT teams need to keep constant track of their resource usage and efficiently report to finance teams. Hybrid CMPs have become extremely popular and can offer a single-pane-of-glass view and cost-control features across multicloud and on-premises environments. As enterprises have become global in nature, they demand a more customizable CMP ecosystem with strong API capabilities to integrate with a large application monitoring and management platform. CMP vendors have a strong focus on cloud financial management capabilities to address enterprise cloud management requirements, including cost monitoring and management and optimization. Furthermore, the hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) market is growing significantly, mainly due to the shift toward innovative technologies that offer cloud-like economics for existing data centers without the need to compromise on performance, availability or reliability.
HCI
HCI is found to be easy to be implemented and managed, and it comes in an integrated SD everything (SDx) format. It has an application-centric ecosystem, and its infrastructure is application driven. The ease of new workload deployment, infrastructure management and infrastructure cost optimization are some of the other factors that encourage engineering teams to leverage HCI solutions. In the coming years, the HCI market will see an increase in adoption both by enterprises and public cloud providers with large data centers. Moreover, the need for increased security will accelerate the adoption of HCI further.
Hybrid CMP
As enterprises have become global in nature, they demand a more customizable CMP ecosystem with strong API capabilities to integrate with a large application monitoring and management platform. Financial management and infrastructure as code, with robust catalog services, are considered essential parts of the platform to bring agility in business. Vendors have also included cloud financial management capabilities to address enterprise cloud management requirements, such as cost monitoring, management and optimization.
ISG has observed that almost all CMP solutions are focusing on developing a robust cloud cost optimization module. Metering and billing modules for chargeback and showback are being given high importance. Some of them even have embraced cloud FinOps to further fortify their stand on this topic. Furthermore, the CMP is becoming more commoditized, as almost all the top vendors have similar features. Enterprises are finding it difficult to find any differentiators and need a helping hand of a third-party advisory firm.
